Circulation & Borrowing Procedures
Circulation Procedures
The school library will be open to students and staff beginning on the first day of school and remain open until the end of the school year. The library media specialist may need to reduce hours at the end of the year to conduct inventory as required by district policy. A notice of reduced access is sent to school administration by the second week of May and teachers are notified of this shortly after. Students will be reminded of the last day of book exchange by the library media specialist during class time. At the end of the year, every effort should be made to locate or replace lost books.
Borrowing Procedures
Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade students may check out ONE book per week.
2nd and 3rd Grade students may check out TWO books per week.
4th and 5th Grade students may check out THREE books per week.
Students in the 2nd-5th grades are encouraged to utilize the school library OPAC to search for and locate books independently. This is accessible from home as well.
Students may return a book at any time. Books are not one size fits all. There is no purpose in a student keeping a book they do not connect with. Students are encouraged to come back and let us help them find a book with a better fit.
If a student has an overdue book, they will not be permitted to check out anymore until the book is returned. Overdue notices are sent home after the book has been out for more than two weeks. If a student is holding on to a book to re-read it, they are encouraged to bring it back and renew their check out. In the event that a book is lost, please check out our Lost Book policy.
