Selection Criteria
The School Library Media Specialist reviews the school library media center collection to ensure that resources continue to meet selection criteria below.
CONTENT
1. Is the book appropriate for various ages, grades, needs, and ability levels?
2. Does the book support the curriculum and objectives of the instructional program?
3. Is the content of the book accurate and up to date?
4. Does the book promote diversity as a positive attitude of our society?
5. Is the book free of bias and stereotypes?
6. Does the book offer different viewpoints on controversial topics?
7. Was the book created by a reputable author/illustrator/publisher?
PRESENTATION
8. Does the book have appealing illustrations and layout?
9. Is the page length appropriate for the students’ ages?
10. Will the book appeal to student’s different interests?
11. Is the binding and paper quality of the book durable?

12. Do magazines and newspapers support the curriculum?
13. Do magazines and newspapers encourage reading for pleasure?
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
14. Is the resource compatible with the current equipment, software, and network?
15. Is the resource user friendly?
16. Does the resource support the curriculum?
