Lost Book Policy
Accidents happen and books can get lost! If you misplace your book, here is what will happen:
We have had books end up in strange places – here are some places to look:
- An overdue notice from the library media specialist will be sent home with the student when the book has been out for more than two weeks.
- A student cannot check out any more books until their lost book is returned.
- If the book cannot be located, the library media specialist will send home a note with the cost of replacing the book.
- In order to replace the book for our collection, please send cash or a check made payable to the school.
- The cost of the book may seem high. This is because we purchase books that are bound specifically for school library use. They cost more than the basic trade books that are found in a book store.
We have had books end up in strange places – here are some places to look:
- Under the litter box
- Under the bed
- Under the couch
- Packed in Christmas decorations
- In the piano bench
- In the diaper bag
- In the garbage can
- In the laundry basket
- Behind the bookshelf
- Behind the washer/dryer
- At the public library if you visit there often
- In your dresser drawers
- In the dog or cat bed
This policy was adapted from Allegany County's, Wicomico County's, and Talbot County's Public School Policies and Procedures Library Media Handbooks.
