ALA Code of Ethics
ALA's code of Ethics was created in 1939, and revised in January 2008. It provides a moral compass for librarians to follow in their daily professional lives.
As a media center and library, we follow the Code of Ethics using the eight principles of this code to help guide our librarians as responsible professionals.
The ALA Code of Ethics encourage librarians to:
I. Provide the highest level of service to all patrons.
II. Support Intellectual Freedom and avoid censorship of library resources.
III. Protect patron privacy and confidentiality.
IV. Respect intellectual property rights.
V. Respect colleagues and coworkers by showing fairness, good faith, safeguarding their rights, and their welfare.
VI. Place library users, colleagues, and employers ahead of private interests.
VII. Keep personal convictions and professional duties separate to provide fair representation to all information
VIII. Strive for professional excellence through training and updating knowledge of new trends.
